We have poured many mass concrete foundations from 3 feet in thickness up to 12 feet. Mass concrete can create great amounts of heat created from hydration during the curing process. This can potentially be harmful to the integrity of the concrete.
Beat the Heat
Many factors, including the ambient and initial temperatures at the time of placement, and the size and amount of reinforcement of the component, can cause temperature variations that may result in cracking and require special provisions to control these situations. Hammerlund has been innovative and successful in partnering with design teams to come up with solutions for thermal cracking.
Different situations call for unique solutions. However, by employing a proper thermal control plan via methods such as selecting the appropriate mix design, precooling, and cooling pipe installation, we can ensure quality control in even the largest of projects.
